While it seems clear that U.S. President Donald Trump was not informed about Ukraine’s intent to target part of Russia’s nuclear triad in the June 1 attack, only the most naive would believe that Western intelligence handlers were not involved. So, the immediate question would be, is there an active group within U.S. intelligence and/or military networks that are acting outside of the constitution and/or of presidential oversight?
In that context, there was a strange development this weekend. Late on June 7, Trump abruptly changed his weekend schedule and added a previously unannounced meeting at Camp David for last night, June 8. Trump declared: “We’re going up to Camp David; we have meetings with various people about very major subjects. We’ll be meeting with a lot of people, including generals, as you know, and admirals.”
While Trump didn’t specify the subjects, and it is not yet clear what was discussed last night, the media quickly acted as if they knew it was singularly about the violent confrontation in Los Angeles. Yet Trump had indicated “very major subjects,” so even if the media speculation were correct, Trump had more than one such subject on his mind. It should not be excluded that Trump would not take kindly to a rump faction that went around Trump in the matter of the attack on Russia’s strategic bombers.
Then, later on Sunday, June 8, a White House official omitted any mention of generals and admirals attending, and apparently recasted the affair: “The White House has organized what will become a regular off-campus retreat of principals attended by the President and Vice President. They will meet on a number of issues and topics.” Only cabinet members and White House officials were mentioned as “principals.”
Aside from the omission of Trump’s specific reference specially to generals and admirals, it is also curious why an abrupt schedule change is necessitated for the beginning of a what is called a “regular off-campus retreat of principals…” Stay tuned.
