Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke on Aug. 8 with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the Presidents of China, Xi Jinping; Belarus, Alexandr Lukashenko; Kazakhstan, Kassim-Jomart Tokayev; and Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyovev; after having spoken with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, the night before. All six were briefed on his Aug. 6 discussions with President Trump’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. Putin discussed relevant bilateral and regional matters with each national leader as well.
Notably, Prime Minister Modi posted on his X account that he “had a very good and detailed conversation with my friend President Putin. I thanked him for sharing the latest developments on Ukraine. We also reviewed the progress in our bilateral agenda, and reaffirmed our commitment to further deepen the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. I look forward to hosting President Putin in India later this year.” India’s Ministry of External Affairs reported that Modi had invited Putin to visit for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.
