Hezbollah Retaliates for Israeli Violations of Truce

Hezbollah retaliated yesterday for what it said were Israeli violations of the 10-day truce in Lebanon. It said in a statement that it targeted a newly established Israeli artillery position in the town of al-Bayyada, South Lebanon, using a one-way attack drone, reported Al Mayadeen. “Resistance reported seeing flames rising from one of the fire-control rooms targeted” it said. Israel claimed that its military had shot down the drone, and called the Hezbollah attack a “blatant violation” of the truce.

Hezbollah asserted that the operation was launched “in defense of Lebanon and its people, in response to the Israeli enemy’s violation of the ceasefire, and its continued aggression against villages in southern Lebanon using artillery shelling.” Despite the agreement, Israeli forces have carried out repeated attacks on southern Lebanese towns, including al-Khiam, Bint Jbeil, Aitaroun, Rsheif, and Shamaa, including mass demolitions and home arson, in addition to artillery shelling targeting multiple areas.

The IDF also killed another journalist yesterday. Al-Akhbar correspondent Amal Khalil was killed in the town of al-Tayri in the Bint Jbeil district of South Lebanon, following a deliberate Israeli pursuit that unfolded over nearly two hours. “Amal Khalil was the daughter of South Lebanon, its voice and its witness. She wore her press vest and went to the field so that the world could see what an occupation looks like in practice. ‘Israel’ killed her because of that,” lamented Al Mayadeen.
