Iran’s Khatam Al-Anbiyaa Headquarters announced today that Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz to all shipping in response to President Donald Trump’s refusal to lift the American blockade of all Iranian ports. “Unfortunately, the Americans, with their repeated record of breaching promises, continue to engage in piracy and banditry under the guise of a so-called blockade,” military spokesman Ebrahim Zolfiqar said in a statement issued today. “For this reason, control of the Strait of Hormuz has returned to its previous state and this strategic waterway remains under the strict management and control of the armed forces.
“As long as the United States does not enable the complete freedom of movement of vessels from Iran to its destination and from its destination to Iran, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz will remain strictly controlled and in its previous state.”
When Trump claimed yesterday that the strait had been reopened, he said that the U.S. blockade would remain in force “UNTIL SUCH TIME AS OUR TRANSACTION WITH IRAN IS 100% COMPLETE.” The Iranians responded by calling the blockade a violation of the ceasefire that went into effect on April 8.
