Russia's Lavrov To Visit India for BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Summit

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will visit India in May for the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting, according to today’s announcement by spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. India holds the BRICS chairmanship this year and will host the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi in September. Zakharova highlighted this subject in describing Lavrov’s visit.

She explained: “A substantive and in-depth discussion of current international issues and prospects for improving the global governance system” is expected during Lavrov’s visit. Further, preparations for the September summit, which Russian President Vladimir Putin is likely to attend, will also be on Lavrov’s agenda, as part of his bilateral talks with Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar. She added: “We plan to discuss the full range of bilateral relations, including the schedule of upcoming contacts at the highest, high, and working levels.”
