States Scramble to Support Farmers with Fertilizer, other Emergency Measures

Agriculture states are scrambling to deal with the fertilizer emergency. For example, on April 17, Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte [issued an executive order]( https://gov.mt.gov/Documents/GovernorsOffice/executiveorders/View?doc=EO32026DriversHoursWaiver.pdf) temporarily lifting various regulations on hauling fertilizer, from April 17-May 1, because “global logistical disruptions and supply chain volatility have impacted the consistent flow of fertilizer into the United States and Montana.” An additional contributing factor is “the lack of drivers.”

States are turning to other actions. On April 23, the South Carolina Senate passed a measure authorizing $35 mil to help farmers in the states. It goes now to the State House of Representatives.
