For the first time ever, the opposition rightwing AfD had one of its candidates win the post of mayor in Zehdenick, a town in Brandenburg with 13,000 residents. He won with 58.2% of the vote, with almost 30% ahead of another politician who got 28.6%. The vote result is clear evidence that the “firewall” declared by all the other parties did not convince the electorate. Discontent with the other parties is enormous, and the support for the AfD is increasing.
