Former Trump NCS advisor, Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, while no longer a part of the Trump Administration, still carries some weight within the MAGA networks and therefore with the circles around President Trump. In his blog, he warns the President that he now has to deal primarily with the questions most affecting Americans, inflation and the economy, if he is to have a chance at success in the upcoming primaries. Flynn also notes the growing disenchantment among the Trump base with any further military action with Iran.
His advice to the President: Declare victory with a ceasefire combined with some sanctions relief; establish some type of regional alliance, perhaps based on the Abraham Accords, to stabilize the situation; and deescalate with defined lines of operation to preserve a sustained “deterrence” posture.
Pragmatist that he is and still much too supportive of the Make America Great agenda of the President, he ignores the underlying reality of the situation. Without an economic development policy like the Oasis Plan, all such short-term options only delay the onset of a new conflict down the road.
