Iran Disputes U.A.E. Claims of Missile and Drone Attacks

For the two days of “Project Freedom,” the U.A.E. claimed Iran had fired dozens of missiles and drones at it, most of which it said were repelled, with the exception of a drone strike on an oil facility in Fujairah. The U.A.E. Defense Ministry said that the country’s air defenses were “currently dealing with missile and drone attacks originating from Iran,” Middle East Eye reported on May 5, and that the explosions people were hearing were “the result of the U.A.E.’s air defense systems intercepting ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones.”

The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement disputing the U.A.E. claims, in which it advised the U.A.E. to stop its collaboration with Israel and the U.S..

“Over the past two days, while the illegal and provocative actions of the U.S. terrorist military in the region and their maritime movements under the deceptive guise of humanitarian aid have intensified, Abu Dhabi officials have also engaged in visible cooperation with the American aggressor, in an approach contrary to the principle of good neighborliness and violating the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter, threatening Iran’s security and national interests,” it said. “Despite this, the Islamic Republic of Iran has shown maximum restraint with a responsible approach and in line with respecting the collective good of the region and the Islamic Ummah.
