Pakistani Chief of the General Staff Asim Munir arrived in Tehran last night for an extended series of meetings with top Iranian officials. He met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi for “extended talks” shortly after arriving. “The two sides exchanged views on the latest diplomatic efforts and initiatives aimed at preventing escalation and ending the US-Israeli war on Iran, as well as ways to strengthen peace, stability, and security in West Asia,” reported IRNA.
Munir also met today with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and President Masoud Pezeshkian. “Iran is merely pursuing the legitimate and lawful rights of its people,” Pezeshkian told Munir. However, he noted that the history of negotiations with the United States requires Iran to proceed with the highest degree of vigilance. According to a statement issued by his office, Ghalibaf emphasized to Munir that Iran will not yield the rights of its nation and country, especially with a party that possesses absolutely no honesty and cannot be trusted.
After Munir left Tehran to return to Islamabad, Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement that Munir conducted intensive negotiations with the Iranian leadership over the past 24 hours that have resulted in “encouraging progress towards a final understanding.”
“During the visit, the field marshal held high-level engagements with Iranian leadership as part of ongoing mediation efforts aimed at promoting de-escalation and constructive engagement, amidst the regional tensions that have simmered after the ceasefire on 8th April, 2026,” the ISPR statement said, reported Dawn.com. The discussions between the two sides focused on expediting the ongoing consultative process to “support peace and stability in the region and to reach a conclusive agreement.”
