Speculation from the U.S. and foreign media as to how, or when a U.S. military intervention against Cuba might occur is rampant. Several U.S. dailies today stress that all options for action against the island are fraught with risks, complications, and future uncertainty. In the midst of this, Cuba continues to focus on the support and solidarity it is receiving internationally, especially from nations of the Global South. It just received the first shipment of 15,000 tons of rice from China, out of a total of 60,000 promised, for which Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez expressed his government’s profound gratitude.

While in New York for the special UN Security Council meeting on May 26, chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Rodríguez met with Wang Yi to discuss the strengthening of their bilateral relationship and China’s continued commitment to support Cuba in any way possible. Rodriguez also met with a large number of other foreign ministers who attended the session, receiving widespread support and expressions of solidarity as Cuba struggles to survive under the U.S.’s cruel and vindictive fuel blockade and tightening sanctions. Mr. Rodríguez today also addressed the meeting of the Group of Friends of Global Governance in New York.
