Türkiye Presents New Intercontinental Ballistic Missile and Plans for Moon Mission

Türkiye has unveiled its new intercontinental ballistic missile and plans for a mission to the Moon, at the SAHA 2026 military technology exhibition. Named the Yıldırımhan missile, it is capable of reaching Mach 25 speed and has a reported range of 6,000 km (3,728 miles), the Defense Ministry said on May 7 during a press briefing held at the SAHA 26 defense, aerospace, and space industry fair in Istanbul. It is fueled by liquid nitrogen tetroxide and is powered by four rocket propulsion engines. The missile has a 3,000 kilogram payload capacity.

“This point we have reached is a source of pride, but developing technology and diversifying needs require us to constantly renew ourselves,” Defense Minister Yaşar Güler earlier said. He added that Türkiye’s defense industry is being carried out in a “sustainable way.”

At the same venue Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır announced that Türkiye will reach the Moon in 2027 by firing its domestically developed hybrid rocket engine and become the first country to use the technology in deep space.
