Ukraine Targets Russian Oil Refineries in Desperate Attempt to Avoid Defeat

Ukraine has attacked oil tanks and refineries in the Black Sea port of Tuapse for the fourth time in a week, reported Ria Novosti, causing major damage and environmental destruction in the region. Black smoke is filling the air, and drops of black soot are beginning to rain down on the region. A fire started by the first attack on Tuesday was not put out until Thursday.

Ukraine has stepped up its attacks on Russian oil infrastructure over the past two months in a bid to deprive the Kremlin of energy windfalls amid the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The Rosneft-operated refinery had stopped operations after it was first attacked on April 16. Ukraine then began to attack the sea terminal, further exacerbating the ability of Russia to export its oil through that terminal
