The U.S. and China seemed to lock horns over a number of major issues at the ongoing review meeting of the Non-Proliferation Treaty being held at the United Nations, reported NHK. U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Arms Control Christopher Yeaw called China “opaque and reckless” in increasing its nuclear arsenal several-fold in the past 15 years. He also upbraided China for not agreeing to join arms control talks with the U.S. and Russia, as Trump has urged. China, whose arsenal still remains far below that wielded by both Russia and the U.S., does not feel that limitations on its part at this level would be appropriate, with the U.S. and Russia still possessing an overwhelming superiority in its nuclear arsenal.
