Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, called Trump’s statement on the Pope “delirium” in an interview with the weekly L’Espresso.

“Delirium, because the activity of the Pope, who is a pastor of the Church, is judged in a way that makes no sense at all. In Africa, the Holy Father explained that the speeches he was delivering had been written weeks before Trump attacked him: the Pope does not engage in debates with this or that person; he fulfills his duty, which is to proclaim the Gospel of Christ. To interpret what he says in a different way is a failure to observe reality. I’m no psychologist, but it seems like delirium to me.”
