Germany Cancels Another Defense Joint Venture

German Defense minister Boris Pistorius has announced the definitive cancellation of the F-126 frigate program, a joint project between Germany and the Netherlands. Apparently, the Dutch company had severe problems with software interfacing with the German systems (or the other way around). Germany will now shift to more of the Meko A-200 frigate, currently the bulk of the German Navy, as a transitory phase. The Meko 200 ships are produced by TKMS (Thyssen Krupp Marine Systems).

This is the second major defense joint venture with another EU member which has been canceled by Germany. It has been preceded by the cancellation of the FCAS (Future Air Combat System) with France, which was supposed to be the pivot of the Luftwaffe. Similarly, the F-126 was supposed to be the pivot of the Navy.
