Establishment Democrats are lashing out against the “insurgents” who won the June 23 New York Primary elections. At least 15 “mainstream” Democratic hacks are circulating an open letter in response to the victories in these New York primaries. Characterized as a “manifesto” by journalists, this letter states, “We are capitalist, not socialist. We are mainstream, not extreme. We are proud, not ashamed, of America.” Party apparatchiks insist that this visible ferment may be popular in isolated precincts in New York, but it is not a national movement. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) said, “The Democratic-Socialists are bomb throwers, not problem solvers. They’ve declared war on common sense Democrats, which will only lead to more deadlock, dysfunction, and hard-working families paying the price.” Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) told reporters, “The effort to nationalize New York is going to fail. What’s happening in New York will be really irrelevant by the time of the midterm) elections in November.”
It should be clear to all that while many of these victorious candidates may lack a LaRouche economic strategy, they won because they insisted on addressing real issues and refused to kowtow to the Epstein Class. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani answered these critics in a June 28 [interview on ABC’s This Week with host Jonathan Karl saying, “We don’t have to nationalize that message...it’s a national crisis.” Mamdani said that the problem with the Democratic Party establishment is that they not only apologize for the status quo, but “even look to benefit from the status quo.” He blames the party leadership for failing to present any positive vision for the future, and believes that merely attacking Donald Trump would suffice. Mamdani said that candidates must identify issues that they are willing to stand up for, and explain how this is relevant to working people. Candidates can’t just be anti-Trump. Mamdani continued, “I’m leading the wealthiest city in the wealthiest country in the history of the world. But it’s also a city where one in four are living in poverty, and for far too many Americans, those contradictions have become their day-to-day life.” He said that he wants to put “working people back at the heart of that struggle.”
These insurgents campaigned against genocide in Gaza, the criminal abuses of immigration enforcement, and the obscene political and economic inequality as typified in the Epstein Class. Two weeks ago, Janeese Lewis George, a Democratic Socialist won the primary election in Washington, D.C., last week a slate of anti-genocide candidates won the June 23 primary elections in New York, and in November, City Council member, Nithya Ramen, another Democratic Socialist, threatens to become the mayor of Los Angeles. There have also been smaller, but similar upsets in Illinois, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Washington state.
There is also a growing revolt against party leaders in Congress. Eighty Democrats in Congress or candidates for Congress have said that their support for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jefferies is “not guaranteed,” and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is facing similar opposition, according to The New Republic. These leaders send weapons to facilitate genocide in Gaza, allow AIPAC and other special interests to control Congress, allowed criminal abuses of ICE, applaud wanted war criminals on the floor of the Capitol, and many other outrages. Young voters especially oppose the hypocritical foreign policy, lobbyists writing legislation, and elected officials accommodating to special interests.
