Rubio Imposes New Sanctions on Cuba to Strangle Its Economy and Its People

On June 4, the rage-driven Secretary of State and National Security Adviser Marco Rubio announced a new round of sanctions on Cuba, naming five individuals and five entities he claims are engaged in subversive activity against the United States. These sanctions fall under the aegis of the May 1 Executive Order 14404, targeting those held responsible for “repression in Cuba” and allegedly “threatening U.S. national security and foreign policy.” Accurately characterized as “vile,” by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, the sanctions assert that Cuba’s “brutal and repressive government… disregards the safety of the Cuban people” so it can serve as “an outpost for our adversaries and exporting radical left-wing violence and terror across our hemisphere.”

This outdated, worn assertion, repeated ad nauseum by Rubio becomes the justification for further strangulation of the Cuban economy and deepening the humanitarian catastrophe underway as a result of the fuel blockade imposed on Jan. 29 and the six decades-long U.S. economic blockade. He has already announced that more sanctions will be coming soon. Targeted in this latest round by the U.S. Treasury are both leading members of the Cuban leadership and military-related business entities capable of generating foreign exchange.
