Cage fighting, according to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio at today’s signed agreement with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), “truly is the United Nations of fighting.” He explained that the UFC has fighters from more than 75 countries. It went downhill from there.
Today’s ceremony at the State Department involved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with UFC’s CEO Dana White and COO Lawrence Epstein. A State Department spokesperson explained that the MOU has the State Department employing the UFC to “engage current and former athletes, coaches, and executives as mentors and cultural ambassadors to deliver overseas clinics, workshops, and training sessions…”
Rubio motivated the spectacle of men fighting within a cage on the White House lawn as capturing the spirit of the United States, on the occasion of its 250th birthday—the country some used to remember as the temple of liberty and beacon of hope for the world.
