Trump Gave Iran Victory Speech at Post-G7 Press Conference

After close of the two-day G7 meeting in France today, President Donald Trump gave an hour-long press conference, flanked by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other top U.S. officials, most of which was self-congratulations for what he and the U.S. have done to Iran. Claiming victory was widely expected as what he might do to politically exit the corner he got himself into in the region. He laid it on thick.

Among President Trump’s many and belligerent boasts, is that he stopped Iran from perpetrating a “nuclear holocaust,” and put a stop to Iran’s 47 year record of threatening the region. He traced his current “success” against Iran, back to steps he took earlier, principally giving the assassination order to kill top Iranian General Qassem Soleimani by drone strike in 2020. He had many other might-makes-right declarations.

Notable was that in thanking some of the regional leaders for collaboration Trump expressed appreciation for President Putin and President Xi “for remaining neutral” regarding Iran.

Otherwise, speaking of the impact on the economy, he said he thought the warfare impact would have been worse than it was, with higher oil prices, and plunges in the stock market. But he bragged that it wasn’t too bad. In the United States, “We have the greatest economy that we have ever had.” In several revealing remarks, however, he said he doesn’t want to be a “Hoover president,” and have a depression.
