U.S. and Iranian delegations are in Burgenstock, Switzerland for talks on implementation of the U.S.-Iran MOU. The U.S. side is led by JD Vance, who arrived overnight, and includes Witkoff and Kushner. The Iranian side is led by Qalibaf and includes Araqchi, Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Bagheri Kani, and Central Bank of Iran Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati, along with Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismaeil Baqaei. According to thej Pakistani Prime Minister’s office, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir are also in Burgenstock. Qatari mediators, not named, are also reported there.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry also said in a statement early Sunday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to hold separate meetings with high-level delegations from Iran and the US, Switzerland, and Qatar in Bürgenstock, IRNA reported.
Al Jazeera} reported at 8:00 a.m. Sunday that the U.S. negotiators want to begin “technical discussions” (inter alia, on Iran’s nuclear material); but that Esmaeil Bathaei, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, is insisting on implementation of “U.S. commitments” of the ceasefire already signed, which include ceasefire in Lebanon which Israel is violating as provocatively as possible.
Baghaei said there would be a four-way meeting involving Qatari and Pakistani mediators to start in Burgenstock.
Al Jazeera quoted chief negotiator Ghalibaf that Iran will “remind” the Americans that the technical talks will wait until implementation of the MoU takes place. “’Here, they [Iran) are talking particularly about … the cessation of hostilities in Lebanon, the lifting of the U.S. maritime blockade, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the release of Iranian frozen assets and, of course, the lifting of US sanctions when it comes to Iran’s oil sector and petrochemical products and related sectors,” Ghalibaf said.
