U.S. forces launched another round of “self-defense strikes” against Iran in response to “unwarranted and continued aggression” last night at 5:15 PM Eastern time. Supposedly this turning on and off of the war, as with a light switch, is not about relaunching the bombing campaign paused on April 8. “So, as President Trump said, they have been tap, tap, tapping. You can see when someone is trying to tap, tap, tap on a deal, instead they are going to have tap, tap, tap bombs dropping on key facilities in Iran from the United States of America. And that’s not because we want to restart anything, we don’t have to restart,” self-styled “Secretary of War” Pete Hegseth told reporters outside U.S. Central Command headquarters in Florida, last night. “It’s because we are, the War Department is prepared to set the terms to ensure that we get the kind of deal President Trump expects.”
While the military results of both the U.S. attack and the Iranian counter-strikes are still not clear, what is clear is that Iran has not “cried uncle” as President Trump has demanded they do. Perhaps that’s why Trump issued a new threat today, to hit Iran even harder tonight. “At some point in the not too distant future, we will be taking Kharg Island, and other oil infrastructure points, and assume total control of their Oil and Gas Markets, much like we have with Venezuela, which is working out brilliantly for both Venezuela and the United States of America,” he added in a Truth Social post this morning.
On the Iranian side, the IRGC again claimed to have targeted the Muwaffaq Salti airbase in Jordan. Iranian missiles “successfully destroyed those facilities and a large number of American fighter jets,” it said.
