Alarming new crisis reports about Volkswagen, involving plans for another job-cutting plan for 50,000 jobs in addition To already announced 50,000 made headlines late yesterday. The management is thinking of shutting down up to four plants—most likely the one in Zwickau among them. Since the management opted out radically of the mass production of cars running with gasoline or diesel, the failure of sales of e-cars in which several billion euros had been invested, has generated drastic drops in revenue. A return to classic car production is therefore not possible, nor wanted at all by the management which holds on to the e-mobility dream.
The collapse of the e-mobility dream is visible in the fact that demand for the ID.Buzz electric bus manufactured there is significantly lower than originally planned: At the start of 2022, VW had still anticipated that a good 120,000 vehicles would roll off the assembly line annually. Last year, however, just under 30,000 ID.Buzz units were sold.
