1300 Frightened Top AI Employees Call on US Gov to Regulate AI

Without endorsing China, which called already last year for international cooperation to regulate AI, and without mentioning Pope Leo XIV, who strongly made the same point in his recent encyclical Magnifica Humanitas, an impressive list of 1,293 employees of frontier AI companies signed a statement titled “Pacing the Frontier,” calling on the US government to cooperate in international governance of AI development

The signers include Anthropic’s CEO, Dario Amodei; the head of research at OpenAI; the head of research at Meta; and the strategic advisor at Google DeepMind, Google’s AI subsidiary. OpenAI and Anthropic have officially expressed their support for the initiative through posts on X.
