There is growing evidence that that there is rapidly growing mental health crisis in Israel of post-traumatic stress disorder, which is reflected in domestic violence and suicides.
According to data from the National Insurance Institute and the Israeli Ministry of Defense, as published by Ha’aretz, the number of people recognized as disabled due to war-related mental health conditions has skyrocketed tenfold over the past three years—from about 6,400 to more than 69,000.
Domestic violence has increased by 65%, one third of the population is suffering from sleep problems and the abuse of alcohol among veterans has massively increased. 62,000 soldiers have required medical assistance, with 11,000 with psychological problems. It is expected that by 2028, there will be 100,000 requiring psychological treatment.
