Solving the Migrant Crisis: Does Mankind Have the Moral Fitness to Survive?

On Friday, EIR and the International Peace Coalition convened an extraordinary emergency roundtable discussion titled, “Solve the Immigration Crisis with Development,” at which more than a dozen experts, international leaders, and activists joined Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche in dialogue on the single most important topic for anyone who wishes to avoid escalation into nuclear World War III in the coming weeks: How can we implement a fundamental shift in the world which finally ends the rule of the neocolonial, geopolitical world order?
The timeliness of the event was only underscored by the fact that on Thursday, 50,000 migrants reached the city of Ceuta, the Spanish exclave bordering Morocco—with several dozen dying in the attempt—setting off a firestorm of shouts and finger pointing from all sides, a crisis which makes absolutely clear that whoever and whatever is behind this particular mass trafficking of refugees, no solution is possible unless the evil system which created the tinderbox in the first place is addressed.
“In order to escape the clearly looming catastrophe, a fundamental policy shift has to occur,” Zepp-LaRouche told the roundtable gathering. “And it has to occur exactly the way Lyndon LaRouche said in his June 2002 speech in São Paulo, Brazil: it has to occur outside the rules of established thinking and outside of the axioms which led us to this crisis.”
In the spirit of breaking with the axioms of the geopolitical world order, in which, as Father Harry Bury pointed out to the event, the billionaire Epstein-class loots the majority of mankind, Zepp-LaRouche made the bold statement that, “If we get our act together, I can see that we could eliminate hunger in half a year. If all the nations would put their minds and acts together,…we could have a mass mobilization to produce a lot of food; we could end this poverty in five years; we could have reasonable living conditions for every human being on the planet in…much less than one generation. If we then would reach the next scientific breakthroughs, like getting thermonuclear fusion as a source of energy, we would have energy security for tens of thousands of years, if not more, and one big cause of war would disappear.”
Speaking of eliminating the causes of war, various speakers on the panel endorsed the Schiller Institute’s proposal for the extended Oasis Plan for Southwest Asia as key to a viable solution for that war-torn region. Zepp-LaRouche underscored that such a program for win-win economic development “can make this region, again, the hub of transport and exchange of culture and ideas between Asia, Africa, and Europe, like it was during the time of the ancient Silk Road.”
Contrast that creative, human approach with the built-in failure that is the Trump Board of Peace “solution” for Gaza. On Thursday, Trump triumphantly announced that Hamas had agreed to a disarmament plan under which it, along with other Israeli-armed militant groups in Gaza, would hand over its weapons during an eight-month period, and Israel would be held to its commitments under the 2025 ceasefire plan—which Israeli officials promptly rejected.
There is no solution that will come from inaction and apathy. The only destination the inertia of the degenerate ruling system will carry us to is nuclear war.
“If everybody would know how close we are to WWIII, you would have millions and billions of people in the streets, and they would make sure this is stopped,” Zepp-LaRouche concluded. “I think we need to have a mass mobilization, because I think what we are experiencing right now is a test if mankind has the moral fiber to survive or not. While I’m optimistic—and I’m an eternal optimist about the potential of the human species—being an optimist also means that the potential has to be realized, because a potential is just a potential, and not yet reality…. If you have any fiber of humanity in you, help us and help yourself now. It is the battle of civilization.”
