Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, reiterated the clear Russian warning that the British have again revealed that they are belligerents in this war and that their facilities would therefore become legitimate targets in Ukraine or elsewhere. “This hostile move directly contradicted earlier official assurances from the British side that Storm Shadow missiles would under no circumstances be used against Russian territory,” she said in her briefing on August 27. “ In doing so, the British Foreign Secretary deliberately repudiated that principle, de facto acknowledging his country as a party to the conflict.”
“We have repeatedly warned that any British military facilities and hardware, whether in Ukraine or beyond, may become targets in response to Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory using British weapons. Those responsible for war crimes, including those committed against our country’s civilian population, will face punishment commensurate with their actions. Inevitable retribution awaits their accomplices and instigators,” Zakharova said.
