The Trump administration is reported to be considering new restrictions on Cuban officials’ travel to the United Nations and other diplomatic activity in the U.S. which is already restricted, ABC reported 24. Currently Cuban diplomats posted to the UN or Washington are restricted to a 25-mile radius from their work, because Cuba is absurdly designated as a “state sponsor of terrorism” and its diplomats would presumably be preparing acts of terrorism against American targets if allowed to travel more widely.

For the UN General Assembly meeting this past week in New York, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla and his delegation were allowed to travel to New York from Havana but the word is that new “strict controls” may be imposed on the officials who plan to return in mid-October for the annual UNGA vote on the resolution calling for lifting the decades-long blockade on Cuba, which Secretary of State Marco Rubio has intensified as a form of genocide against the Cuban people. ABC had access to an internal document and U.S. officials who spoke anonymously about the new restrictions because a decision on what they will entail hasn’t yet been finalized.
