Beyond Ukraine’s massive attack on Moscow with 1,600 drones, timed last weekend to disrupt Muscovites’ ability to vote in the national legislative election, the drones also targeted election commissions, killing at least two election officials. Those folks in Kiev apparently take not voting very seriously.

The various efforts failed to suppress the voting, as Russia had the highest percentage of voters in a national legislative election since 2003, and the new legislature will be even more strongly allied with President Putin’s leadership. In fact, RBC Ukraine smelled a conspiracy of Russian officials behind the significant voter turnout: “During the massive drone attack on Moscow on September 20, residents of the Russian capital received no warnings about the threat through either sirens or SMS alerts. Analysts linked this to the Russian authorities’ reluctance to reduce turnout in the State Duma elections.”

More details have emerged. Rodion Miroshnik, the head of the Foreign Ministry’s mission tasked with documenting alleged Ukrainian war crimes, reported that Kiev had targeted buildings housing election commissions, damaging or destroying 74 of them. He stated: “This is material confirmation of planned actions by Kiev and its partners aimed at disrupting elections in Russia. Kiev, which is not seeking to hold elections at home, is investing in attempts to disrupt elections in Russia, but without result.”
