Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten said that “importing Russian gas is a very stupid idea” during a joint press conference in The Hague with Zelensky. Jetten was responding to reports suggesting that U.S. negotiators might propose a resumption of Russian gas imports as an economic concession in a potential peace deal.
Jetten added that “as Europeans we’ve shown over the past few years that we were able to get rid of fossil fuels from Russia. And I can assure you that there is no European leader willing to buy Russian gas in the next few years. What we want is Russia to stop this war.”
