Masked ICE agents fired in a car the evening of Oct. 8 near the border of the Bronx, NY, shooting the 28-year old driver of a vehicle multiple times, with a 5-year old child strapped into the back car seat.

The NYPD arrived on the scene and took the man in their cruiser to the nearest hospital, where he was treated. The child is reported as unharmed. ICE then took charge of the man and transported him to an undisclosed location. New York Mayor Mamdani said at a news conference shortly after the incident, that he had been in contact with President Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Mark Mullin demanding that the man be released, but to no avail. No video of the incident has been released, although one can assume that there is such on the videocams of the ICE agents which has yet to be released

Mayor Mamdani has issued a statement calling for closing down ICE. This morning Homeland Security Secretary Mark Mullins held a press conference defending ICE.

Jose Vega, Independent LaRouche candidate for Congress C.D. 15 from the Bronx, attended the rally outside the hospital last night, and today issued a statement titled, “ICE Just Shot a Person in New York City–Are You Prepared to Help Me Abolish ICE?”

Excerpts from the Vega statement:

Yesterday, in the Marble Hill neighborhood of Manhattan, near the edge of the Bronx, an ICE agent shot and wounded 28-year-old Oscar Belgal. His 5-year-old son was in the back of the car during the shooting, though he was not physically injured. Belgal was taken to the nearby Columbia Presbyterian Allen Hospital, where hundreds of protestors gathered to demand his release from ICE custody.
