Truckers in Italy met with the Deputy Minister of Transportation Rixi Oct. 27, who basically told them that the government has no money. At the moment, only 480 million euros are reportedly on the table, of which 420 million had already been allocated in the budget since April. Considering that there are at least 500,000 vehicles on the road throughout Italy, a union leader representing truckers in the south points out, we’re talking about less than 1,000 euros per truck. Truck drivers have confirmed that they remain on strike. If immediate solutions are not found, they may once again join the demonstrations by small farmers who are staging a permanent sit-in in the coming days.

A new strike in the coming weeks cannot therefore be ruled out. The same goes for farmers, who demand a long-term solution for the high fuel costs.
