[The Presidential press secretary Dmitri Peskov reiterated on October 5]( https://iz.ru/2178754/brifing-dmitrii-peskova-5-oktiabria-glavnye-zaiavleniia-izi) a warning which the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Defense have already given to foreign embassies, regarding the risks they are running by maintaining their embassies in Kyiv. Peskov noted President Putin’s comments that there will be further targeting of Ukrainian economic facilities, and pointed out the possible risks to foreign missions stationed there.

Few Western countries seem to have made any decision on the matter. When asked about this on October 5, [Secretary of State Marco Rubio replied]( https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2026/10/05/8056597/), “’Look, we have an embassy presence there, and we’ll make the determination about whether it’s safe for them to be there or not… They [the Russians—ed.] have been warning diplomats to leave for months, and I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone that Kyiv is under attack. I think that’s well understood.’”
