In the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament, a resolution titled, “Peace Talks Instead of Escalating the War in Ukraine,” has been filed as a joint motion by the parliamentary groups of the AfD (Alternativ Für Deutschland) and the BSW (Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht). It was scheduled for discussion today in a special session of the parliament. Spokesmen for the AfD and BSW point to their awareness that the motion as such has the status of a signal to the decision makers in Berlin and the European Union to enter a process of peace diplomacy. The timing of the resolution comes on the eve of the EU Council of heads-of-state and government meeting Oct. 15-16, the agenda of which includes proposed support measures for Ukraine, and increased actions against Russia.
