Defense Official: It's Full Steam Ahead for U.S. Nuclear Warhead Modernization Programs

US nuclear warhead modernization programs are back on track despite cost overruns and program delays. So says Charles Verdon, Deputy Administrator for Defense Programs at the National Nuclear Security Agency. Verdon was pushing back on a GAO report that said that the agency is moving too fast on warhead modernization project. The specific problems involved off-the-shelf capacitors for both the B61-12 and W88 Alteration 370 programs that delayed production and added hundreds of millions of dollars in costs to both programs. Verdon, in remarks reported by Defense News, insisted that those problems have been solved and new production dates for both warheads have now been set.
