It was clear this was going to happen the second the words were out of Biden’s mouth during the last debate, saying he was for the prompt “reconversion” – i.e., annihilation — of the oil sector of the U.S. economy. Now a number of Democratic congressional candidates from the most affected states are protesting. For example, Democratic Representative Xochitl Torres Small, whose district includes portions of New Mexico’s oil-rich Permian basin, tweeted after the debate, “I disagree with VP Biden’s statement tonight,” saying the country should not “demonize a single industry.” Other Democrats are doing the same.
