As the US military withdraws from Afghanistan, it, along with the CIA, is casting about for nearby bases from which it can continue to operate. Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has made clear that Pakistan will not allow the CIA or the US military to operate in Pakistan. “Will you allow the American government to have the CIA here in Pakistan to conduct cross border counter-terrorism missions against Al Qaeda, ISIS and the Taliban?” Jonathan Swan of HBO Axios asked him. Khan replied, “Absolutely not. There’s no way we’re going to allow any bases or any sort of action from Pakistani territory into Afghanistan. Absolutely not.”
