Whoever wrote the Pope’s new Apostolic Exhortation on the so-called climate crisis, entitled Laudate Deum, his hand was led by the Devil. Intended to be a continuation of the Laudato Sì encyclical, it was published on Oct. 4, St. Francis Day, and is aimed at rallying forces for the COP28 conference at the end of November.

The Exhortation is damaging the public image of the Vatican in a moment when its credibility is specially required for its peace efforts. The document is full of falsities and is pervaded by a fury against “climate deniers,” targeting quite clearly the Clintel group, without naming it.

“Despite all attempts to deny, conceal, gloss over or relativize the issue, the signs of climate change are here and increasingly evident,” the document says. “No one can ignore the fact that in recent years we have witnessed extreme weather phenomena, frequent periods of unusual heat, drought and other cries of protest on the part of the Earth that are only a few palpable expressions of a silent disease that affects everyone. ... [I]t is verifiable that specific climate changes provoked by humanity are notably heightening the probability of extreme phenomena that are increasingly frequent and intense.”

The document is full of apocalyptic forecasts, such as if temperature “should rise above 2°, the ice caps of Greenland and a large part of Antarctica will melt completely, with immensely grave consequences for everyone.” This and similar statements are backed by footnotes indicating the IPCC, Climate Change 2023, Synthesis Report, Summary for Policymakers, as the source (NB: we know that the summary, written by the ideologues, often twists the content of the report itself, written by the scientists).

The Vatican document then goes against so-called climate deniers: “In recent years, some have chosen to deride these facts. They bring up allegedly solid scientific data, like the fact that the planet has always had, and will have, periods of cooling and warming.” Against this, it warms up the usual soup of unproven statements such as “what we are presently experiencing is an unusual acceleration of warming, at such a speed that it will take only one generation—not centuries or millennia—in order to verify it.”

It then mentions the nonexisting “balance” which is disrupted by man: “In order to ridicule those who speak of global warming, it is pointed out that intermittent periods of extreme cold regularly occur. One fails to mention that this and other extraordinary symptoms are nothing but diverse alternative expressions of the same cause: the global imbalance that is provoking the warming of the planet.”
