Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy , is in China, where he held meetings with Foreign Minister Wang Yi and others. The Chinese readout in Global Times says China hopes that the meetings will encourage “rational and pragmatic voices and forces in the EU.”
Wang Yi told the media that “there is no geopolitical conflict or major conflicting interests between China and Europe.” He claimed, hopefully, that “The Europe relationship has its own internal logic and is not influenced or interfered with by third parties.”
Wang continued:: “We need to make sufficient preparations for the leaders’ meeting by the end of the year.”
Borrell said the European Union values its relationship with China and is committed to developing a constructive and stable EU-China relationship. The EU has no intention of closing its doors to China, engaging in a trade war, or restricting China’s development. On the contrary, the EU welcomes China’s prosperity and stability, Borrell said, according to Global Times.
Borrell said the European Union values its relationship with China and is committed to developing a constructive and stable EU-China relationship. However, he acknowledged in a public forum: “Trust is at the core of any human relationship, and ... common trust [between China and the EU] has been eroded. We have to work to rebuild this trust.”
