Ryabkov Warns No Arms Control Agreements without Change in U.S. Policy

April 16, 2024 (EIRNS)—Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told TASS yesterday that the U.S. would have to radically change its policy towards Russia before there could be any meaningful talks on strategic stability between the two sides. “In order to get back to negotiating on strategic stability, we, the Russian Federation, must see fundamental shifts in U.S. policy. So far, there are no signs that this tremendously destructive anti-Russian charge is being even slightly rethought. Accordingly, there is no reason to talk about resuming negotiations,” the senior diplomat said. New agreements on arms control “will not emerge by waving a magic wand,” he stressed. “So, prospects on this track are very grim for now.”
