Second U.S. Carrier To Arrive in Southwest Asia Waters in 10-14 Days

According to the U.S. Naval Institute News Fleet and Marine Tracker for Aug. 5, the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier pulled into Guam on Sunday, Aug. 3, meaning that it will be 10-14 days before it shows up in Southwest Asia to replace the USS Theodore Roosevelt. The guided-missile destroyers USS Spruance and USS O’Kane are part of the Lincoln’s task group. The TR itself is reported to be presently in the Gulf of Oman, just outside the Persian Gulf.

Sabrina Singh, the Pentagon’s deputy press secretary, was, however, singularly uninformative when reporters asked her yesterday for updates on the U.S. military deployment in the region. “I don’t really have an update for you on where things are other than what we have already said publicly from [Aug. 2] Friday, which is that we did commit additional assets to the region,” she said in response to one such question. She would not even confirm whether or not, for a period of time, there might be an overlap of the two carriers in the 5th Fleet area of operations.
