Benjamin Wesley, the Independent Party candidate for Congress (CD 4) in Bridgeport, Connecticut, has a beautiful and moving “Call for Sanity and Renewal” which was published in the Connecticut Examiner on Nov. 3 as a [letter to the editor.
Wesley describes the shocking conditions in the once thriving manufacturing center of Bridgeport, which is now overwhelmed with homelessness. Even the working poor depend on food banks for survival. The incumbent congressman brags about the new jobs being created in the state, but Wesley points out that most people are forced to work two or three of these jobs and still can’t pay their bills. Bridgeport is closing six public schools because of their dilapidated conditions, yet the U.S. can finance foreign wars in Ukraine and Gaza, which is putting the entire world in danger of nuclear war.
Wesley makes clear that according to the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the danger of nuclear war is now worse than it was during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.
