Former U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard has been nominated by President Trump to be his Director of National Intelligence, a position that oversees all 17 intelligence agencies including the CIA, FBI, and NSA. Since the announcement, mainstream media and government officials have been in a frenzy on both sides of the aisle over the controversial decision. On the one hand, right-wing spokesmen like former National Security Adviser John Bolton called the selection, “the worst cabinet-level appointment in history,” while on the other side we have Democrat Congresswoman AOC and Sen. Elizabeth Warren chastising her as “pro-war” and in “Putin’s pocket.”
When representatives from the far-right and the far-left are joining together to dogpile and slander one person who has not even taken office yet, this should be a clear indicator that something else is happening beyond the media spectacle. Why did both parties unite against Gabbard?
