Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova charged yesterday that nuclear technologies in the hands of Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s criminal regime pose a grave threat to international peace and security. She noted that overnight into Feb. 14, news outlets had reported of another provocation staged by the Kiev regime, targeting the Chernobyl nuclear plant, reported TASS. “We have repeatedly warned that the Kiev regime is preparing such provocations. Unfortunately, our fears turned out to be justified. All this confirms that nuclear technologies in the hands of Zelenskyy’s criminal regime pose a grave threat to international peace and security,” Zakharova pointed out.
Zelenskyy claimed that a Russian attack drone hit the sarcophagus enclosing the damaged Chernobyl reactor, leaving a hole in it. The timing of the attack is suspicious, as it came only hours before Zelenskyy delivered his speech to the Munich Security Conference, where he could play it up as another example of alleged Russian madness. “The only country in the world capable of attacking such sites, occupying nuclear power plants, and conducting military operations with complete disregard for the consequences is today’s Russia. This is a terrorist threat to the entire world,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.
Zakharova stressed that the provocation was yet another one in a series of steps “by the Banderites, aimed at undermining nuclear safety and security,” after which she listed a series of Ukrainian provocations against the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant dating back to August of 2024.
The provocation against the Shelter at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant is a continuation of reckless actions by the Kiev regime, which “is well aware of what it is doing,” Zakharova concluded. “In the past, Russia took part in international efforts to construct this facility, designed to address the aftermath of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine. However, what the Ukrainian armed forces are doing now is undermining those efforts.”
