Russian Consulate in France Struck by Explosives

On Feb. 24, three improvised explosive devices were thrown at the Russian consulate in Marseille, France, coinciding with the third anniversary of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. Two of the devices detonated, but no injuries were reported. French authorities sealed off the area, and a bomb disposal unit later triggered a controlled explosion.

Russia condemned the attack as a “terrorist act” and urged France to conduct a swift investigation and enhance security for its diplomatic missions.

“France condemns any attack on the security of diplomatic and consular facilities,” said a French Foreign Ministry press official. “The inviolability and protection of diplomatic and consular premises, as well as their personnel, are fundamental principles of international law.”
