U.S. Bomber Flies Near Borders of Russia and Belarus

A U.S. B-52 bomber, flying out of Fairford, England, made an appearance over the Baltic states yesterday, flying close to the borders of Belarus and Ukraine in the process. While passing over Tallinn, Estonia, the bomber was escorted by F-35 stealth fighters—likely Dutch, as the Netherlands is currently participating in NATO’s Baltic air policing mission—and a pair of Finnish F-18s, reported The War Zone. Tracking data from flight tracking websites then showed the B-52 flying towards St. Petersburg to within 50 miles of the Russian border before turning and heading southwest over Latvia and Lithuania. It then entered Polish airspace via the so-called Suwalki Gap, coming within 10 miles of the Belarusian border.
