Belarus’ President Lukashenko Comments on Possibilities for Peace, Offers Sage Advice to President Trump

March 5, 2025 (EIRNS)—In a lengthy interview with blogger Mario Nawfal, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko outlined his perspective on world developments, particularly in relation to American President Trump’s desire to bring peace to Ukraine and the world. Lukashenko stressed that it is not time to “litigate” who started the war, or who bears its main responsibility, as Zelenskyy was doing in his “dust up” in the White House, but, rather, to focus on bringing about a peace agreement as quickly as possible. He praised the fact that Trump is sincerely committed to doing that. He was, however, concerned that President Trump must start to deliver concrete results in his domestic program, and not simply rhetoric, if he is to maintain the strong support he had in the election.

Noting the frequent appearances of Trump and Elon Musk together, Lukashenko commented, “They are still living in the pre-election mayhem.” He pointed to the controversial Trump-Musk Gaza video which was pushing Trump’s “Riviera plan,” and said he considered this a mistake, particularly in putting it on “X.” And, in light of the continued high political tensions, he urged a more cautious approach to Democratic opponents. “You need to cool off in the U.S.A. today,” he said. He said that perhaps they needed someone like him to advise the President. He then went through what he would tell the President, if he were in such a position. “Calm down. Do what you have voiced,” he said. “You have said many good things. But, most importantly, you must deal with the internal problems of the United States of America. During the election campaign, you made a lot of promises to people, to voters, to 320 million people. If you don’t make any progress within a year, if, well, at least some percent of your promises are not fulfilled, terrible, turbulent times await you. Even your fellow party members will refuse to trust you. This is possible. There is enough jealousy towards Trump. There are a lot of jealous people who can’t stand Trump, but they understand that Trump was elected by the people. Two houses of Congress are dominated by Republicans. But hopes are very high. You have to live up to these hopes. Step by step. Live up to these hopes step by step. Currently it is not there. There is a piling up of statements. ‘We will do this. We want this. We want that’. What about the result? And time is running out, time is running out quickly,” he warned.

Lukashenko also noted that Zelenskyy could be pulled into a peace process, saying that it was not true that Zelenskyy only had 4% support from Ukrainians, as Trump had said, but mooting that it was more probably 14-17%. He also related his own early communications with Zelenskyy, whom he treated “like a son,” before the Ukrainian chief allied with the camp of the extreme nationalists. He seemed to indicate some confidence that Zelenskyy could still play a role in bringing peace to his country.

Lukashenko also urged President Trump not to play hardball with the People’s Republic of China. “What I would advise Trump: don’t attack China out of the blue. You need to come to an agreement with China. I know China very well. China has developed before my eyes. You will not stop China. It is not us, not Russia. It is China. The people are locked up there, one and a half billion people are locked up to defend China to the last. Come to an agreement with the Chinese. This will be in the interests of the entire planet.”
