What Could a War with Iran Mean for the U.S. and World Economy

March 23, 2025 (EIRNS)—If Netanyahu’s dream were to come true, and Trump were to launch an attack on Iran, what would it mean for the world? Iran has repeatedly vowed “devastating” retaliation for any attack on their soil. This retaliation could come in the form of missile attacks on Israeli and U.S. military targets in the region. Iran could militarily close the Strait of Hormuz, shutting off access to the Persian Gulf and the oil tankers that traverse it, driving up the price of oil.

The economic consequences could be the final straw that pops the trans-Atlantic financial bubble, sending stock markets into a tailspin and crushing the retirement savings of millions of Americans whose pensions are invested in the market.

If other countries facilitate Israeli or U.S. strikes, could their economic infrastructure join local U.S. military bases as coming under Tehran’s crosshairs? And what would the domestic implications be in Jordan, whose population already opposes that nation’s tacit support for Israel’s crimes?

The devastation of the religious-tinged war intended by those supposed “supporters” of Israel could exceed anything seen before. “Does one describe a man who throws a hand grenade as a supporter of that hand grenade?” asked Lyndon LaRouche in 2001.
