Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi came out of a meeting in Geneva with his counterparts from the U.K., France, Germany and the EU making the same point he made in a TV interview before going in: Iran will not negotiate about its nuclear program while it is under fire from Israel. Iran will not negotiate with any side until Israel regime stops attacks on Iran, Araghchi said, reported Mehr News. “We are open to continue talks with the three European states,” he said, expressing readiness for a next round of talks with the European side. Araghchi emphasized to his interlocutors that the Israeli war of aggression had to end in order for diplomacy to meaningfully continue.
The Europeans came out with positive statements about their discussion with Araghchi. “The good result today is that we leave the room with the impression that the Iranian side is fundamentally ready to continue talking about all important issues,” German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said, reported AP. He said the two sides had held “very serious talks.”
“We are keen to continue ongoing discussions and negotiations with Iran, and we urge Iran to continue their talks with the United States,” said British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, but he added that “we were clear: Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.”
