There were 11 more mass shootings in the U.S. over the weekend, resulting in 13 deaths and another 49 casualties. Mass shootings are defined as when 4 or more individuals are hit, not including the shooter. Eleven such mass shootings in 48 hours, or one in every 4.4 hours, makes it a busy weekend, even by U.S. standards. In the first 5 months of 2025, the U.S. had a little over one mass shooting per day. Last weekend was at a rate over five times higher.

Salt Lake City made the list this weekend, though it wasn’t for the much-publicized shootings at the “No Kings” event there on Saturday, June 14. “Only” two people were shot there, when a “peacekeeper” for the event shot a man with an AR-15-style rifle next to the demonstration. Arturo Gamboa, 24, dressed in black and wearing a mask, was ordered by two members of the “peacekeeping team” to drop his rifle, but he dashed into the crowd. A “peacekeeper” fired three shots, wounding Gamboa and a bystander, Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, who died that evening at the hospital. The Salt Lake City police stated: “Detectives have developed probable cause that Gamboa acted under circumstances that showed a depraved indifference to human life, knowingly engaged in conduct that created a grave risk of death and ultimately caused the death of an innocent community member.”
